The game of Monopoly has provided fun and entertainment to generations of people over the years. It encompasses topics including property ownership, risk, and reward, as well as financial skills. I have used the game of Monopoly to teach students the basics of the accounting cycle: from journalizing the initial transaction through the completion of the financial statements. It has proven to be a successful, engaging assignment in which authentic learning is the outcome. This session will be a case study and experience report, focusing on the positive and the pedagogical techniques that have been used in the course, the design of the project assignments, and methods for introducing and grading the project.
